Naturopathic Doctor, Masters in Nutrition
Dr. Tonya, is excited to be back in the Fargo-Moorhead area, to serve her hometown and all its health care needs. She is looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you, and helping you along your healing journey!
After completing her bachelors degree in nutrition, from the University of North Dakota (GO Sioux!), she spent four years in Portland, OR studying to be a Naturopathic doctor, at the oldest Naturopathic medical school in the country, the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). During her time at NUNM she completed her doctorate in Naturopathic medicine (ND), her masters degree in whole food nutrition (MScN), and researched the in and outs of thyroid health and autoimmunity.
Her masters degree in nutrition, gives her a unique expertise in nutrition education, meal plan development, specialized diets, and nutritional medicine, which Dr. Tonya believes to be the foundation of health.
Research is a big part of medicine and health these days, and Dr. Tonya believes in using the most up to date and researched, natural therapies for healing. Her research focused on thyroid disease, autoimmune disease, and immunology (immune system function). You can rest assured that sound research will always be a part of your treatment.
Dr. Tonya completed a year long mentor-ship with one of Naturopathic medicines foremost authorities on digestive health, Dr. Steven Sandberg-Lewis. During this time she worked with patients who suffered from complex gastrointestinal conditions, that were "untreatable" by conventional medicine. Dr. Tonya believes in using nutritional medicine, botanical medicine, homeopathy, and various emotional techniques, to get to the root cause of disease, allowing the body to heal itself, as it is designed to do. Additionally, she completed a six month internship with Dr. Martin Milner, an expert in Naturopathic cardiology and pulmonology, where she had the opportunity to work with patients who suffered from advanced cardiac and pulmonary diseases.
Dr. Tonya has a passion for cooking, trying new recipes that are fresh and in season, traveling the country/world, and spending time with her new husband, family, and friends. Dr. Tonya knows she doesn't have the greenest thumb, but she continues to work to make it greener, by working in the garden, so she can enjoy fresh herbs for cooking, and tasty garden tomatoes and cucumbers, which are her favorite!
